What is EMDR therapy and how do I know if it's right for me?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy particular helpful for getting over traumatic experiences in one's past.  This includes typical 'traumas' like being attacked or being in a car accident as well as so-called small-t traumas which come from being exposed to harms and dangers of an emotional rather than physical nature.  For example, this could included having been bullied at school or having felt rejected by a parent as a child.

When one has lived with the effects of these experiences for such a long time, they often feel like part of one's personality and way of being.  It can be a real eye-opener and transformative to find that the often anxious and tense feelings deeply stuck in one's body can be eased and released, leading to an improved sense of well-being, more confidence and being able to relax more.

It is a very powerful method I am using as and when appropriate with many clients, and which can bring about a lot of positive change in a short time.

We can do EMDR therapy exclusively and from the start or work in an integrative way that combines counselling and other approaches with some EMDR.
